Every pet parent has difficulty understanding how much their pet’s quality of life is suffering, and when to know when the time is right to make ‘that’ decision.
To make it easier for you, we’ve adapted a clinically validated Quality of Life scale, designed by veterinary oncologist Dr. Alice Villalobos.
The idea of this is is to help educate pet parents and to provide a clear structure for how to evaluate your dog’s current life experience,
Her scale is called the HHHHHMM or H5M2 scale. These letters stand for categories that you can use to assess your pet’s quality of life. Each section is to be given points on a 0 to 10 scale, with 10 being ideal. If the total is less than 35, it may mean that your dog’s quality of life is suffering.
How to use this scale
Scores on the left side closer to 0, are considered worse, while scores on the right approaching 10 are better.
