Hi, I’m Abbie. I started my Rehabilitation carer working with humans after graduating with a BSc (hons) Sport Therapy degree in the UK in 2004. Upon completion of my degree I worked as a Sports Therapist at a local professional football (aka soccer) club where I provided pitch side care and injury rehabilitation and prevention techniques to the junior academy. Alongside this, I also worked at a University as a biomechanics and rehabilitation technician where I was heavily involved in research and the university rehabilitation clinic. Some of the research I was involved with focussed around gait analysis using 3D motion capture and force platform analysis, as well as looking into injury prevention techniques.
I have always had a passion for animals from an early age and a move to Australia with my family brought about the opportunity to embark on a new career path and I studied to become a qualified Vet Nurse.
Whilst studying I was lucky enough to merge my 2 passions and qualifications together and became a Rehabilitation Nurse at a vet clinic. In 2020 I joined the ARK team and the rest is history…!
At home I have 3 cocker spaniels with 2 being geriatric! I am also a foster carer for Cocker Spaniel Rescue Australia, and I have a bit of a soft spot for the golden oldies!
One of the reasons I love working in animal rehabilitation is to give every animal the the best quality of life possible.
